Science Experiment: Coins in the balloon

We put different sized coins inside balloons, then rubbed the ballons creating friction. Can you guess what happened to the coins inside?

Science Experiment: Parachutes

We explored the effects that air resistance has on our hand-made parachutes. We had to think about our design, create our design and then test our design. Here are some pictures of us making and testing our parachutes. What did you learn about air resistance?

Science Expert

Mrs Knight's Dad (Mr Hall) came to school today to show us a pulley system that he had made. He explained how the system works to help ease the load for busy workers. Instead of lugging a bucket with bricks in it up lots of stairs, they can just use the pulley system to get the bricks up the stairs. Can you explain what is happening in these pictures? We were so lucky to have him as a visitor :)

Science Experiment: Toothpick star

Can you tell what science is happening here?

ANZAC DAY

In Room 11, we have been busy learning about ANZAC Day, which commemorates a very significant event in NZ history. We read lots of stories from the library such as Simpson and his Donkey and Jim's Letters. We pretended that we were soldiers and wrote letters from the trenches home to our loved ones. Some of us pretended that we were the little siblings left behind to help out on the farms and in the factories and wrote letters to our big brothers and Dads in Gallipoli. We learnt about Mascots in the war and how the pigeon's used to deliver messages to the soldiers. We looked at different ways that we remember the soldiers that fought for our country and our freedom such as wearing poppies and baking ANZAC biscuits. Here are some photos of us baking and eating our ANZAC biscuits. Lest we forget xo

Watching 'Holes'

During Term 1 our class novel was 'Holes' by Louis Sacher. This is a great novel about a boy called Stanley who thinks he got into trouble because he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He is sent to Camp Green Lake, which is not an ordinary camp! He is made to dig holes every day to 'build character'. He learns how to build new friendships and he also learns a lot about himself and his own character while he is away...We loved this book and on the last day of school, we watched the movie with Room 12. The movie was very similar to the book with only a few variations. We highly recommend it! I wonder what book we will read next term?
